Press Center
SHARE is a great resource for information about breast and ovarian cancer, particularly patients' experiences with these diseases. We can connect you with survivors who are happy to tell their stories. Our goal is to raise public awareness and knowledge about these diseases and the impact they have on people's lives.

About SHARE
SHARE, founded in 1976, is a nonprofit organization serving people affected by breast or ovarian cancer. Our programs include telephone support in 10 languages, support groups, educational programming, and advocacy opportunities. All our services are led by survivors who know what it is like to deal with early stage, recurrent, and metastatic disease.
SHARE's Mission
SHARE's mission is to create and sustain a supportive network and community of women affected by breast or ovarian cancer. SHARE brings these women and their families and friends together and provides participants with the opportunity to receive and exchange information, support, strength and hope. SHARE's work focuses on empowerment, education and advocacy to bring about better health care, an improved quality of life, and a cure for these diseases.
Brief History
In 1976, Dr. Eugene Thiessen, a doctor specializing in breast cancer, thought that breast cancer survivors could support one another. He called together the first support group, and 12 women showed up. SHARE was born.
In 1978, the group incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization led by a small, dedicated staff and even more dedicated volunteers.
Over the years, this group expanded its outreach and developed new programs, helping thousands of women and men affected by these diseases. They added hotlines and educational programs and began to advocate for legislation and funding to fight breast cancer.
SHARE started LatinaSHARE in the late 1980s to provide support, information, education and advocacy opportunities for people who feel more comfortable communicating in Spanish.
SHARE began offering services for women dealing with ovarian cancer in 1992. SHARE has recently been expanding our services for women dealing with metastatic breast cancer, ensuring that survivors dealing with metastatic disease can get help from others who share their experiences.
