Join SHARE at Annual Lobby Day in Albany!
Help make a difference and join SHARE, when we meet with legislators in Albany to talk about the issues.
Please join us on Tuesday, March 15th for the 13th Annual New York State Breast Cancer Network's Annual Lobby Day. We will be making the trip to Albany along with other breast cancer groups from New York State to discuss our priorities with legislators. This year, we support a bill that would require private insurance companies to cover oral chemotherapy the same way that they cover intravenous (IV) chemotherapy. Currently, IV chemo is covered out of the major medical portion of a policy, while oral chemo is covered by prescription drug plan. As a result, access to oral chemotherapy could be compromised.
We also support the restriction of Bisphenol A in thermal cash register receipts. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely used chemical found in many products. It is an endocrine disruptor that can mimic the hormone estrogen in the human body. A 2008 study found that BPA was detected in 93 percent of urine samples in a survey of the U.S. population. One of last year's priorities was to restrict BPA in baby products, and Governor David Paterson signed the Bisphenol-A-Free Children and Babies Act into law on Friday, July 30, 2010. We hope to have the same success with this year's priority.
To learn more about these important issues, come to the training on March 7th, 6 PM, at SHARE's main office. For more information, and to register for Albany Lobby Day, please contact Deb Aruta at daruta@sharecancersupport.org. Details on registration coming soon.
Last year was my first year attending Albany Lobby Day, and it was a great experience (read my blog to learn more). Join us in 2011!
