Make-up Tips for Maturing Women

I would like to ask what modifications or changes are good for maturing women to consider? Applying the same makeup we did when we were well below the age of 50 does not seem to work as well on an age 65 plus. -- Cheryl R.

Cheryl, I was a makeup artist for 10 years and that was my number one question from all mature women. But, I have great news for you... HONEY, it ain't over!!!! We all become different versions of ourselves as we grow older and there is one thing that no one ever seems to talk about when talking about makeup as you age and it is SHAPE!!! It is absolutely crucial to add shape back into your face.

Here are 3 basic tips to bring back your youthful face...

Tip 1: fill in your eyebrows

The eyebrows are everything as you get older. Many eyes start to appear droopy and filling of the brow and shaping an arch will help you regain some youthfulness. Use a pencil or eyeshadow to fill in the hairs to help create an arch where there was one before. Always use a color that is congruent with the hair color you have at the moment. if you have grey hair keep the color soft so as to not look too heavy. Also if you do not have eyebrows anymore, stencils are a great guide to reapplying a brow. Use a stencil that is the closest to your natural brow.

Tip 2: eyeliner

If there is one thing that a mature woman should do before leaving the house it is, line those eyes. But be very careful with liner. Many women, especially as they age, start to line all the way around and very heavily. This most times is detrimental to your cause. Youthfulness is still the goal, not heaviness. You should line underneath but it should be very thin and the top a little thicker and lifted on the outside in order to lift the sagging edges of the eye. Plus, of course, curled lashes and mascara (thickly applied at the base and lighter towards the top) will help aid the liner in creating a fresh shape. If you do not have lashes due to chemo then I DO suggest a thicker liner. If you smudge the line a bit with your finger then you can create enough of a distraction that your lack of lashes is not noticeable.

Tip 3: lip liner

Lip liner was a heavy trend for women of all ages for years but as you get older it is an absolute staple!!!! The trick to lip liner is to apply all over the lip and blend before the lipstick even goes on. The point of lip liner is to give the lip a shape and when dealing with lips with a lot of wrinkles it is even more important to fill in with a liner. Then blot and add lipstick. Repeat several times so as to avoid "bleeding" with the lipstick into fine lines. These tactics should keep the lips well shaped and colored all day long...

Good Luck!!!!!
