Raising Awareness about Ovarian Cancer in Your Community
Do your family, friends, and neighbors know what they need to know about ovarian cancer? SHARE volunteers can help. We can come to your neighborhood hospitals, clinics, senior centers, churches, synagogues, health clubs, and other community-based organizations -- and tell you and others about the symptoms and risks of this disease.
We can also provide you with written materials about ovarian cancer to distribute in your community.
Please contact Sara Messina at share_outreach@yahoo.com if you'd like us to give a presentation in your community, or if you want us to send you written materials about ovarian cancer.
About this Program
We're working to decrease mortality rates for ovarian cancer by encouraging early detection of the disease. We want everyone from the general public to health care practitioners to know what they need to know to detect and treat this disease in its earliest stages.
This program, called SHARE's Ovarian Cancer Outreach Initiative, is funded through a grant from the New York Community Trust.
Help Out by Volunteering
You don't have to be an ovarian cancer survivor to help. We'll train you to speak about ovarian cancer to community groups. We're looking for individuals who are English-speaking or English-Spanish bilingual. If you're interested, email Cheryl Rubin at crubin@sharecancersupport.org.
