Runners and walkers from around the city gathered at Flushing Meadows Park on Sunday, June 4, to participate in the 5th Annual We Run for Hope 5K/10K Run and Walk. The annual event honors patients and survivors of cancer, as well as the memory of those who died from the disease, and raised funds for SHARE's programming. The run/walk also serves as an opportunity for patients, survivors, and advocates to come together in a show of community and solidarity.
Staff and volunteers from SHARE (pictured below) were on hand to watch the day’s festivities unfold, cheering on the participants and distributing helpful materials such as brochures and flyers about SHARE’s education and support services.
Among this year’s race honorees was Dr. Ruby Scharma (pictured center below next to Tricia Singh, We Run for Hope Executive Director ), a medical oncologist at Monter Cancer Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Hofstra-North Shore LIJ School of Medicine. Dr. Scharma is a noted champion of breast cancer patients and has been heavily involved in researching treatment options and identifying preventative measures.
“This is always an exciting event and SHARE is so thankful to be here,” said Jackie Reinhard, SHARE’s Executive Director. “Cancer impacts so many lives, and it’s amazing to see so many people come together to show support."
