Hundreds of participants, including friends, family and caregivers, gathered at Prospect Park on September 9 for the 9th annual Brooklyn T.E.A.L. Walk/Run. Hosted by the non-profit organization T.E.A.L. (Tell Every Amazing Lady), the event is held every September during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and seeks to celebrate survivors of the disease while also honoring those who’ve died from it.
Team SHARE (pictured left below) was led by Captain Deb Polinsky (pictured bottom right below), a dedicated volunteer who facilitates SHARE’s Brooklyn ovarian cancer support group in partnership with T.E.A.L. The rest of the group comprised of additional volunteers, staff, and extended family who came out to support this incredible cause. Among them were the loved ones of Lisa Franklin (pictured center below), a devoted and passionate SHARE Ambassador who passed away from Stage IV ovarian cancer in 2015. As an ode to her memory, Lisa’s son Justin and his fiancée Morgan both ran the course as tribute.
Other notable guests at the festivities included actor Steve Buscemi (pictured left below) and New York City Councilman Rafael Espinal Jr. (pictured right below) who lost his mother to ovarian cancer.
In all, Team SHARE raised over $3,000 to help T.E.A.L. continue its mission of promoting awareness about ovarian cancer, supporting survivors, and raising funds for research.
