The Impact of Whiteness as Normative in Healthcare with Dr. Stephen Nelson

Black women in the U.S are disproportionately affected by health issues and disparities. This country has a long history of structural and systemic racism including social, commercial and government systems that add to keeping Black Americans at a disadvantage. Inequalities exist in socioeconomic status, segregated communities and in health care where Black women’s pain and symptoms are often disbelieved and dismissed. Our panel will discuss inherent provider bias and the need for systemic and widespread change in healthcare.
