Announcing SHARE’s New Board President: Angelica Cantlon

angelica_cantlonSHARE is excited to announce we are welcoming a new Board President as of June 2019!

Angelica Cantlon has served on the SHARE Board for two years, including one as Vice President. She brings significant expertise from a long career in global strategy and human capital, as well as a personal connection to SHARE’s mission: Angelica is herself a two-time breast cancer survivor.

She knows firsthand the power of having a community of support during an experience with cancer. “I am now 6 years past my second incidence of breast cancer. Although I did not know about SHARE at the time, there were a few of my women friends who took the journey with me through my surgery, chemo, and radiation treatments. Looking back, they were there on my good days, and during my more challenging times. They would hear what the doctors and nurses were saying when I struggled to hear the details. You never forget the courage and commitment of those who stand by your side, listening and reminding you that there is light at the end of what seems like a very long and dark tunnel. I am forever grateful to them,” she said.

“I feel very privileged to have been offered this opportunity and believe this is a way for me to pay it forward after so many people, both friends and family, were there for me,” Angelica added.

Jacqueline Reinhard, SHARE’s Executive Director, said, “We are delighted to welcome Angelica as our new Board President. Her personal experience with breast cancer, her passion for our mission of community-building, and her wealth of knowledge in leadership will make her a tremendous asset to SHARE.”

Angelica first heard about SHARE through Dr. Anne Moore, who was her oncologist. Dr. Moore has been a longtime friend of SHARE through her work as a leading breast cancer oncologist, and as a member of the board of the New York Community Trust, which supports SHARE’s Ambassador Program. Angelica decided to train as a Helpline volunteer and quickly realized she wanted to become more involved.

SHARE is special among cancer organizations, Angelica says. “While research is important, SHARE has a very clear mission about reaching women struggling today, right now, with breast, ovarian, or metastatic breast cancer. We reach them in their communities, through the Helplines, online, in corporate settings— wherever they are. Our trained peer-volunteers walk this frightening road alongside them when no one else can, offering support and wisdom that can only come from someone who’s walked it herself.”

“Our volunteers and Ambassadors are the faces of inspiration to help others along every step of their breast or ovarian cancer experience, from diagnosis to treatment to survivorship to recurrence, and provide programs and support to family and friends who are often at a loss for how to help. It’s these personal relationships, women riding the ups and downs of life with cancer together, that are the heart and soul of SHARE.”

In addition to her personal passion and commitment to SHARE’s mission, Angelica also brings a wealth of professional experience in all areas of human resources. She is the Founder and Managing Partner at Cantlon & Associates, LLC.

From 2009 to 2017, Angelica was Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, for International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. Prior to joining IFF, Angelica spent 10 years at MetLife; her last position was Senior Vice President and International Chief Administrative Officer. She has also held executive HR positions at Morgan Stanley, Orion Capital Companies, Avon Products, and Southern New England Telephone, and has worked for Greenwich Hospital and The American Health Foundation. She is on the Advisory Board of Healthy Children Directions and is a member of the International Women’s Forum; she previously was on the Women’s Council and Leadership Committee of Lincoln Center. Angelica holds a BS with honors from Marymount College and a MA, Omicron Nu, from New York University.

Angelica said, “SHARE has a 43 year foundation of strength, our mission is clear, and we have a deeply knowledgeable staff and amazing volunteers. My goal is to leverage all that has come before and consider how we can reach even more women to understand what they’re going through, help them make the best decisions for themselves going forward, and lighten their struggle during a time of need. SHARE’s Board will continue to strengthen our alliances with other organizations, do more to get the word out on who we are, and enhance our fundraising so that there are more resources to go towards our mission.”

Angelica succeeds Ilene Cohen, who served SHARE excellently as Board President for two terms. Ilene is a Senior Vice President at PubWorX. She will continue to serve as a Board member.
