Let’s Talk About It: Black Women with Breast Cancer (Sisterhood & Survivorship: A Fireside Chat About Lymphedema, Advocacy and Health Equity)

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), we’re excited to welcome a special guest for an extended edition of Let’s Talk About It. Please note that this special session on Thursday, October 22nd will begin one hour earlier than our usual meeting time, starting at 6:00pm ET / 5:00pm CT. Following the fireside chat, we’ll transition into a community discussion from 7:00–7:30pm ET / 6:00–6:30pm CT.

A breast cancer diagnosis does not end when treatment ends. For many survivors, the physical and emotional effects continue long after the last infusion, radiation session, or surgery. Join Dr. Sheri Prentiss, best-selling author, public health expert, and breast cancer survivor, for a powerful fireside conversation exploring the often-overlooked impact of lymphedema after breast cancer treatment.

Dr. Sheri® will share her unique perspective as both a physician and patient, discussing how her own experience with lymphedema transformed her into an advocate for equitable access to education, prevention, and care, especially for Black women and communities disproportionately affected by disparities in lymphedema outcomes. Together, we’ll explore what patients need to know, what questions to ask, and how we can work toward a future in which survivorship encompasses every aspect of quality of life. Let’s talk about it!
