“The women of SHARE were there for me 17 years ago when I was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer. I am lucky to have done well, partly because of prolonged treatment and partly because a friend and fellow survivor at my doctor’s office led me to SHARE. The personal experiences, wisdom and humor of our community go a long way toward easing the upheaval created by life-threatening illness. Athena brings with her several years of development experience, having worked with not-for-profit arts and education organizations. It has always been her long-term goal to apply this experience to charitable causes, especially those that seek to provide support to under-resourced groups and individuals. “Cancer is a disease that has affected family members and close friends of mine, and while there are different forms of cancer that can affect many people, cancer is cancer. No one should have to endure the fight alone and without any support. I am very happy to be part of a dynamic team of women that help women with breast and ovarian cancers navigate through their diagnosis and fears, and be better informed, so that they can be stronger mentally and emotionally for themselves and their families, as they fight this disease.”

Catherine is excited to be leading the fundraising and communications efforts of SHARE Cancer Support. She joined the team in 2025 drawn to SHARE’s mission and commitment to health equity.

Catherine has over twenty years’ experience in development, strategic planning, and communications for international and U.S.-based nonprofits. Most recently, she was the Director of Philanthropy at BRAC USA and previously held leadership roles at NAF, Learning Leaders, and Equality Now. Catherine has an M.A. in Modern European History from Columbia University and a B.A. in English from the University of Vermont.

“I first worked with SHARE as a consultant in cultural competency and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. I was impressed by the many programs, services and support offered by SHARE’s dedicated and passionate women. When I was asked to apply for my current position, I felt honored to be considered. Now I feel honored to be a part of such a dynamic organization. My areas of particular interest include programming, training, and support services for women with metastatic disease, BRCA-gene-related cancer and triple-negative breast cancer. As a clinical social worker who has been treated for breast cancer, I hope to build a program that meets the unique needs of women with advanced disease.”

Hannah Yore (MA) is a health and human rights practitioner with expertise in improving outcomes for medically underserved populations facing serious illness. She is thrilled to join SHARE as the Director of Uterine Cancer.

Hannah brings a decade of experience leading national and international initiatives in palliative care, healthy aging and communicable and non-communicable diseases. She has shared her expertise at diverse forums, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and the International Federation on Ageing. Most recently, she served as the inaugural Director of International Programs at SAGE (Services and Advocacy for LGBTIQ+ Older Adults), where she designed and implemented programs supporting queer elders across six continents.

In addition to her advocacy work, Hannah is a trained palliative care and bereavement doula, providing guidance and support to patients and families navigating grief and end-of-life planning.

Heidi is the Executive Director & CEO of SHARE Cancer Support.  As a cancer survivor herself, she is passionate about SHARE’s important mission to support, educate and empower people diagnosed with breast and gynecologic cancers and to eliminate disparities in the healthcare system. She has been in public service for her entire career. Prior to joining SHARE in December 2024, for 10 years she was the President & CEO of Access Justice Brooklyn (AJB), a social justice nonprofit which seeks to make the legal system more accessible and equitable by providing free legal services and community education to Brooklyn residents. Prior to joining AJB, for 13 years she was Senior Director of Legal Services and part of the senior leadership team at Her Justice, a nonprofit organization that uses a pro bono model to provide free legal services to women, often survivors of domestic violence, giving them a real chance to obtain legal protections to transform their lives. She held senior positions in the Legal Counsel Unit of the Office of Legal Affairs at the New York City Human Resources Administration and the New York City Administration for Children’s Services.  In 2012, she received an Inspire! Award from Cardozo Law School for her dedication to the public interest. She is a cum laude graduate of Wellesley College, and received her JD from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and an MPA from the Austin W. Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College.

“After many years of working in the corporate sector I’m excited to transition into the world of nonprofit which is something I’ve always had a passion for and believe is doing my best to put kindness out into the world and I’m very happy to become a member of the SHARE team as the Corporate Outreach Liaison.

In my spare time you can find me volunteering at God’s Love We Deliver as well as at a local soup kitchen in my area and for those interested I’m also a certified yoga instructor with a passion for health and wellness.”

Since 2019 Kathleen has been actively involved with advocacy as a Metastatic Breast Cancer peer volunteer at SHARE Cancer Support. She began her volunteer work as a dedicated MBC helpline volunteer and MBC peer then added support group facilitator as well as OUR MBC Life podcast host and producer to her roles. Kate believes there is nothing better than being surrounded by peers “who get it.” She feels strongly that no-one with MBC should feel alone and everyone should have access to support. Kate is passionate about the needs of the community and strives to educate and empower people to advocate for the best possible care and quality of life.

Kate recently accepted a position of Director of Metastatic Breast Cancer Program at SHARE Cancer Support. She is excited to use her science background as well as her MBC patient experience to continue the success of the metastatic breast cancer programs and is committed to developing new programs with the goal of improving patient experience and survivorship.

Kate graduated with honors and earned a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Policy and Management, Community Health Education and Planning, an Advanced Certificate in Healthcare Management, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to aid members of my community and to direct them to the resources they need, I am also grateful to have the chance to learn new things alongside them.”

“I believe that it is important to love what you do and know who you are doing it for. That is why when I learned about SHARE and their mission I knew that this was where I wanted to be. I have previous experience in the nonprofit industry specifically focused in the latino community. It is an honor to be a part of such a positive and impactful group of people that work together to help women every single day. I am delighted to bring my skills and experience to such a wonderful organization such as SHARE.”

Megan-Claire Chase is an accomplished media and marketing professional who is also a stage IIA invasive lobular breast cancer survivor in Atlanta, GA. She became heavily involved in patient advocacy and research post-treatment. Megan-Claire, also known as Warrior Megsie, is a powerful communicator, public speaker, researcher, published writer, and blogger of Life on the Cancer Train. She is a passionate advocate who is effective in shedding light on the struggles and trials for those patients and survivors, especially those diagnosed under 40 years old. In her spare time, she is a consumer reviewer for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, a contributing writer for WebMD, and a voice over actor. Megan-Claire and her work have been featured in national press including The New York Times and People Magazine, as well as through numerous pa­­tient advocacy organizations.

At age 39, Miranda found a lump in her breast and was told it was nothing, which lead to a new lump 6 months later and a diagnosis of Stage 3 hormone positive IDC. What followed was a year that included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction, and radiation. Being a
young Hispanic woman, she often felt out of place among the mostly older non-Hispanic patients. Most support groups she encountered were populated with women who were mostly affluent, had retired or had adult children. A year after finishing active treatment, she began to volunteer at Houston Methodist Hospital on the infusion floor as a CanCare.org volunteer, visiting with patients while they go through chemotherapy infusions. She also began to lead the HMH local support group, in conjunction with Reconstruction of a Survivor. She is a volunteer turned employee with WigOut.org, which offers free wig kits to uninsured and underinsured women, out of Smith Clinic and LBJ Hospital, part of Harris Health Systems in Harris County. These three activities allowed her to meet women at the beginning of their diagnosis, helping her to seek out young Hispanic women that needed the support she did not have. She was chosen in 2020 to be a YSC RISE Advocate, as well as an Ambassador with For the Breast of Us, an online community dedicated to supporting women of color diagnosed with breast cancer. She now sits on their Community Partnership Board. Lastly, she’s recently accepted a position with SHARE Cancer Support, working with the “Our MBC Life” podcast, which is dedicated to amplifying the voices and sharing the realities of those living with metastatic breast cancer.
Miranda resides in Houston, Texas with her husband of 20 years and their five children.

“In 2018 I was introduced to SHARE and attended the ovarian cancer support group. I walked away from that meeting feeling full of hope. A few months later, I trained and joined as an Ambassador to do outreach in my community. Currently, I work with SHARE as an Ambassador and Uterine cancer Associate. My background in healthcare and community activism allows me to utilize my skills to support women battling cancer. I am a 3 time cancer survivor, so I am extremely passionate in helping to support the women who have experience with this disease; it’s very important to me.”

Building community and showing up for others amidst present day structures of oppression and inequity are some of my core values, shaping the path that has brought me towards this new role at SHARE. I’m honored to be part of such a dedicated team and excited to use my background in admin, communications and outreach to advance SHARE’s mission bringing support to those who may be or have been diagnosed with breast and gynecologic cancers. I’m an open book and welcome you to reach out if there’s any way in which I can help. I’ve worked in a variety of roles wearing different hats across media, non-profit, and entertainment organizations so I’m willing to take a crack at anything.

“I have always prioritized working for mission based organizations, so it is especially meaningful to work for an organization that I personally feel so passionately about. My mom was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer at a young age, so I saw the effects cancer could have on all facets of life. I learned about SHARE while working for another cancer nonprofit and was so impressed with the programs and services it provides. I am thrilled to join such a dynamic team and honored to carry on my mom’s legacy in the work that I do. I am excited to bring my background and experience to help continue creating important programs that serve SHARE’s community.”

Zarek Mena, OPN-CG, has extensive experience in the field of oncology patient navigation, and works with the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators + (AONN+) as well as the ACS National Navigation Roundtable (ACS NNRT). Zarek’s passion in serving the under-represented and historically excluded communities has led to addressing various needs such as food insecurity, cold capping, grant funding, screening and prevention, integrative medicine, as well as financial toxicity. Her firsthand experience as a cancer survivor, caregiver and knowledgeable professional provides much-needed representation in addressing health equity.
