ABCD LEAP Series – Caring Without Losing Yourself: The Invisible Weight of Caregiving and Finding Strength Through Connection

Caregiving is an act of love, but it can also bring exhaustion, uncertainty, anticipatory grief, changing family roles, and the pressure to remain strong for everyone else. Too often, caregivers put their own needs on hold while navigating the emotional, physical, and practical realities of supporting someone with cancer.

Presented in partnership with After a Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCD) for their LEAP series, this session brings together the clinical expertise of an oncology social worker and the lived experience of a breast cancer survivor who is also caring for a parent with cancer. Together, they offer both evidence-informed strategies and honest, real-world insights into what it means to care for someone else without losing yourself in the process. Participants will leave with practical tools, renewed permission to prioritize their own well-being, and reassurance that they do not have to carry the weight of caregiving alone.
