When Jocelyn was diagnosed with breast cancer and learned she needed a mastectomy, she reached out to SHARE’s Helpline and joined a Support Group. Jocelyn explains, “SHARE helped me focus on understanding my cancer. The more I understand, the less fear I have. The women at SHARE speak my language because they’ve been through this.” Her family lives in another country, so her Support Group gave her a feeling of family support, here.
Jocelyn doesn’t want to just look on the bright side, she wants to acknowledge reality, and now she can help support and educate the newer members of her Support Group and help them navigate their own diagnoses and realities. She say:
“We need to take the label off cancer so people aren’t so scared. We should openly talk about it, so people know what to do."
